Voters Approve Redistricting Commission; Apply to be Citizen Members

On November 3, Virginians voted 2-1 to create a bipartisan commission charged with redistricting. The decennial maps will no longer be decided in the Capitol's backrooms and out of sight to the citizens of the Commonwealth.

The 16-member panel will consist of eight lawmakers and eight citizens and be led by a citizen chair. Its deliberations will include public hearings held across the state and open meetings.

Citizens can apply to join the Virginia Redistricting Commission through December 28, and PEA-VEA encourages our members to do so.

You  must  be  a  Virginia  resident  and  registered voter, who has voted in at least two of the past three general elections, and not have held political office. Citizen members will be selected by January 15, and the commissions' work must begin on or before February 1, 2020.
